Best roast beef dishes Cardiff

Culinary offerings revolve around the traditional British roast, prepared here with great attention to detail. The meats—including juicy beef, tender turkey, or spicy ham—are slow-cooked to ensure maximum tenderness and flavor. A highlight is the roast beef, served with a rich, homemade gravy that captivates with its juicy texture. Accompanying this are the famous Yorkshire puddings, baked fresh in-house, and a must-have with their crispy exterior and fluffy center. Side dishes such as golden, crispy roast potatoes and a selection of seasonal vegetables complete the experience. For vegetarians, there are also delicious alternatives like the Vegetable Roast, made with fresh ingredients and served with a vegan gravy.

In addition to the carvery offerings, the restaurant also features other dishes that reflect British tastes. The sausages wrapped in bacon—spicy sausages enveloped in crispy bacon—are a popular snack or an accompaniment to the main course. To end on a sweet note, the sticky toffee pudding, a warm, sweet dessert with syrup often served with vanilla sauce, is cherished for its comforting warmth. The drinks menu includes a wide range of beers, wines, and non-alcoholic options to perfectly complement the meal.

Families also feel at home here, as there is a special children's menu offering little ones a kid-friendly version of the classic roast.

Visited yesterday afternoon (Saturday 8th march) around 1-2pm. The lady on entrance greeted us and showed us to a table, she was a lovely lady. Not many people there at that time which was good, nice and quiet. The food. The gravy was like water and food pretty tasteless, the dessert however was delicious as always. Since eating from here yesterday I've had diarrhea, my stomach hurts and so does my backside. I highly doubt I'd visit here again, I paid over £60 for food which was pretty bad and resulted in diarrhea.

We wnt to this location today and there was only one person taking orders at the bar and a queue formed very quickly at around 9.30 am. Our breakfast order was taken and we went and got a table and settled ourselves In. When we went to the food counter there was a 6 slice toaster that took an age to toast the bread and in doing so lots of people were again queued for this. Then on to the main Cooked breakfast when the three of us went to get food there was no hash browns and only two eggs that looked like they had been there for a while and we waited patiently to see if any more was brought out from the kitchen and nothing so we asked the staff member at the till if their wad more being brought to just be told yes there's more coming, but did not even ask or go to the kitchen to find out, at this point t the rest of our food on our plates was getting colder at this point there was about 7 other people who was then waiting for the same items eggs and hash browns at this point one family went and sat back at their table. At this point stage the three of us went on to our table with cold food and still waited for eggs and hashbrowns to be replenished. Only almost eaten all of the breakfast and thn they was brought out. To be honest almost 15 minutes to replenish eggs and hash browns I think this is unacceptable and by no means a good service. What I will say is that they need to have someone monitoring the food levels more frequently ie more staff or for the kitchen staff to be more alert tha5 there is paying customers waiting for more food to be replenished as some items will always run out quicker than others... ps I will mention that when they brought out the eggs only 6 appeared but there was possible about 9 or 10 people who were frequently checking to see if they had been replenished. All in all not a good service or experience 😕.

Food was Luke warm, didn’t help that when I got my meal there was a queue of 8 people In Front of me waiting for gravy to brought out, the lady had to ask twice for gravy. Most of the condiments were empty, no horse radish for example. So by the time I sat down the meal was Luke warm. Lots of food on the floor around where we were sitting. Disappointed as this was the first time we had been to the Toby Carvery Cardiff Gate, can’t see us going back.

Told to wait at the bar for our table but no-one manning it. Really enjoyable Sunday carvery and currently £14 each, though looked messy by 3.30. Table was late as previous patrons of our table delayed leaving so no cutlery or napkins provided and waiter kept forgetting to bring them over. Advised we could have extra pigs in blankets for the extended wait for our table but we ended up being charged for them. Just your average busy Sunday at Toby really

Prob the most avoidable Toby in Cardiff. Service ok as staff friendly young Indian boy was very polite and got our drinks, the plates was dirty, the veg was rubbish, the que was massive. Stick to rhoose or Whitchurch Toby this one is deffo last resort if your very desperate, also no beef dripping roasties!

Always a pleasant visit! Food was piping hot, not dry as it is in most carvery’s and variety is better than most. Staff are always friendly and polite, and make sure you feel welcome. I recommend this Toby to everyone, hands down best one around. Thanks, Mat (41)
